Overview
A graded exercise stress test (GXT) is a non-invasive test to screen for coronary artery disease. This test involves exercising on a cardiac treadmill to a target heart rate while electrocardiogram (ECG) leads are attached to the skin on your upper chest. The speed and incline of the treadmill will get gradually more difficult. Typically this test lasts 10 – 20 minutes.
- Evaluate prognosis
- Diagnose the cause of syncope or near syncope
- Evaluate other signs and symptoms that may be heart-related, such as tiredness, shortness of breath, dizziness, or fainting.
- Identify irregular heartbeats or palpitations.
