Overview
An exercise stress echocardiogram involves all the components of a graded exercise stress test (GXT) with the addition of a focused echocardiogram that is performed immediately after exercise. The purpose of echocardiogram immediately after exercise is to determine if there are any functional abnormalities of the heart in response to stress. This test is non-invasive and does not involve any radiation. In total this test typically takes 20 – 30 minutes.
- Evaluate prognosis
- Diagnose the cause of syncope or near syncope
- Evaluate other signs and symptoms that may be heart-related, such as tiredness, shortness of breath, dizziness, or fainting.
- Identify irregular heartbeats or palpitations.
