Holter Monitoring Overview
A Holter monitor is a continuous electrocardiogram (ECG) that records the electrical activity of the heart to check for any potentially dangerous electrical abnormalities (arrhythmias). A cardiac technician will apply the electrodes in-office to your chest and provide you with a small, attached monitor as well as instructions regarding showering / bathing, symptom recording, and when to return the monitor. The monitor should not interfere with your normal daily activities such as exercise. It is typically worn between 48 – 72 hours but can be worn up to 14 days if needed.
