ECG Overview
An ECG is a simple, single electrical reading from the heart that is performed at rest. Several non-invasive electrodes are applied by a technician to the chest wall and a 10-second reading is taken. No advanced preparation is needed and normally this test takes only a few minutes to conduct.
- Basic electrical snapshot of the heart
- Identify evidence of prior cardiac damage
- Identify irregular heartbeats
- Look for the cause of chest pain
